X One Designs at the CCYC
Established in 1951, the Cowes XOD Division has maintained a fleet, consistently associated with the Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club (CCYC). The proximity of Lallows Boatyard and the series of successful boats built and sailed by Ian Lallow contributing to our association.
Clare Lallow constructed their first XOD in 1962. Following extended stays in Yarmouth and Lymington, X140 LUCREZIA has now returned to Cowes and is based at the club. Ian's first build was X142 DOLCE VITA, and the yard continued to build their beautiful XODs until 1989, the last being X188 PRINCESS JALINA.
The division's most recent heyday was in 2016, with 22 boats regularly racing and 16 based at the CCYC. Thanks to a dedicated few who consistently represented the class, we have sustained our activities and are once again a growing and vibrant division.
Cowes hosts three XODCA “Approved Clubs”, but the majority of XODs are moored on the pontoons at the CCYC. The club serves as our divisional base, featuring a welcoming clubhouse, walk-ashore pontoons, and accommodating numerous XODs during the Central Solent regattas.
The CCYC maintains a busy race calendar, including the popular CCYC Members & Open regatta weekends. Evening races are organized throughout the season by the Island Sailing Club on Tuesdays and the East Cowes Sailing Club on Thursdays. Additionally, weekend races through the Cowes Combined Clubs Association are available through the season.
The seasonal highlight for our division is the Telegraph Bowl, a competitive weekend event attracting boats from other divisions. Held on a weekend prior to Cowes Week, it is a class Open Regatta forming part of the class Golden Tiller Travellers Series.
Cowes is a growing division with racing throughout the week – contact the divisional captain to meet the fleet, sail or be social. We look forward to welcoming you at our club, the CCYC.
