Social Report From Rear Commodore House
Tuesday Evening Racing
I am very pleased to report that since introducing the Tuesday evening suppers this year after the racing, the bar takings have more than trebled!
We also made a profit on each meal sold . Our team of wonderful volunteers (chefs and assistants) are to be thanked for their admirable efforts. The evenings have generated around 30 to 40 covers on average not to mention the sailors and guests who have enjoyed the facilities of the club. The feedback that I have had is that they are getting great value and will be doing the same next season. They also mentioned the friendly ambience of the club in general. Let us build on this success for next year.
WEDNESDAY SUPPER NIGHTS
Now that the Tuesday racing is over we have switched these suppers to every Wednesday evening and if the first few are anything to go by they will be as much of a success as the Tuesday night suppers. Give the TV a break! Hot suppers will be served at 8.00 pm by our team of volunteers.
Volunteers –I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all members who have given up their spare time for the club this year no matter how little –be it on the water laying marks and as race officer duties, replacing the structural timber beams and planks on the apron or clearing up after dinners, BBQ’s, washing up etc. Remember we are all a team here and whatever you have contributed is very much appreciated .
If you would like to offer your services in any way we would love to hear from you– remember the more volunteers we have helping out on the water, in the kitchen, assisting with maintenance work or on work parties means less work for the regular ones. It is a good way to meet and get to know other members. It is good fun too.
Cowes Week – This was a great success and profitable – even the Sunday Commodore’s Cocktail Party made a profit. The Jazz night on the Thursday was also extremely profitable. Most importantly the club was buzzing all week during the days and Friday night. After hosting the Mayor’s reception in the marquee many stayed on to watch the fireworks and enjoy the BBQ and drinks in the clubhouse. We watched the fireworks from the marina on our SCOD ‘Stirling’ and whilst carrying sleeping grandchildren past the clubhouse at half past ten, noticed how very busy the bar was with a wonderful friendly atmosphere.
Well done also to all our staff who worked so hard to make a most successful and enjoyable week.
Please look out for dates of other upcoming social events. Check out the Club’s website, Club notice boards, emails or contact the secretary at this office.
If you have any ideas regarding what kind of social or other events you would like to see at the Club please let any member of the committee know.
NEW MEMBERS: We have had a significant increase in new members joining the club this season. A special reception for them is planned so that they can meet the Committee in the clubhouse on a Sunday.
