Firstly thank you to everyone for their support in my first month as RC Sailing. It will be very difficult to fill Mike’s shoes as he has done such a great job. I am having trouble enough remembering everyone’s name and what all the committees do; I am lucky to have inherited Mike’s dedicated sailing committee to help me fill in all the gaps I cannot remember.

Well Cowes Week is behind us; despite fears that the recession would badly affect the event, all seems to have gone well. Slightly less people on the High Street but great weather for all us sailors led to a memorable week that gave us pretty much the whole range of wind conditions. Our race team on Zenobia performed admirably as the Black group committee boat. We have gained some new faces on the race team recently. Many thanks to Tim Hammick for picking up the Principal Race Officer mantle for the recent FF15 Josephine Terry Regatta. The team gave some excellent courses in difficult conditions. The racing was close with Andrew Millband and Liz Williams with Fifty Fifty getting the better of Ed and Vicky Manning on Black ‘n Blue to take the overall win.

We will be holding our Boxing Day race again this year, so please keep your eye on the notice board and Web site for details.

Next year’s events are shaping up quite nicely. The Club has been asked to help out with the Dragon Edinburgh Cup and South Coast Championships; Sonar 2 Sail and Etchells Nationals. We also have enquiries for a few other events which if confirmed will see the CCYC race scene looking fairly healthy in 2010.

By the next Ark I hope to have found out if there is enough interest in the club holding a Round the Island style of event for day boats; possibly combined with the present ECSC Sail the Wight Event. If so then I will be looking for volunteers to help with the race committee, results and safety boat cover nearer the time.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the race committee that have helped out this year, and Ian Lallow for the continued use of Zenobia, without them we would not be able to put on the quality events that we are known for.
