The Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club was founded over the winter 1952/3 and to mark its first season the club rather ambitiously held a Round the Isle of Wight Race for Dinghies on 6th June 1953. Line honours were taken by Ian Proctor, John Oakley and Cliff Norbury sailing the prototype Osprey in a fleet that included Uffa Fox, Bruce Banks, Jack Knights, Claude Nethercot, Beecher Moore, the Jardine twins, Jack Holt, Bob Casson, Max Aitken and Richard Creagh-Osborne.
To mark the 65th anniversary of that race the club will be holding a Keelboat Race Around the Wight on Saturday 9th June 2018 which is open to boats that were eligible to race in White Group in Cowes Week in 2017. The Notice of Race is now available here with the Entry Form here.
CCYC is pleased to welcome Jolliffes Chandlery as sponsor for the race. Director Andrew Millband said: “Jolliffes Chandlery is delighted to be associated with and chosen by the Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club as title sponsor for the Keelboat Race Around the Wight (KRAW). The whole team here have really got behind this exciting and challenging event which will see the return of small keelboats racing together around the Wight for the first time in many years. We are particularly pleased to announce that we will be offering prizes from our supporting brands, Kingfisher Ropes and Harken, as well as many other great prizes from the shelves of the Islands largest Chandlery. Our staff will not only be cheering the competitors on in their endeavour but also entering their own company team!”
Due to the low entry level for this event, we have regrettably had to cancel the event.
